Absolute Photography: Nightscapes...

I really enjoy night photography and I am excited to do more of it. This was an architectural assignment for school, and we were asked to capture the buildings where our school is located. For anyone that is interested I have spent a big part of this year in the lower levels of the building on the left :)

This little man (Mr.C) is 1!! You might recognize him from here or here! This was his first time in cowboy boots and the poor little guy just couldnt get used to the heel. So cute!

Absolute Photography: Beautiful Morning - Grande Prairie Photography

I woke up this morning to a text from GP "All sorts of crazy fog today". This week is the A2Z challenge for the letter "F" so I was immediately wishing I was at home. Then an hour later I peek out my own curtains and it IS foggy here! Out the door I run without even combing my hair and off to take pictures of fog. I drove out to where I took my last great fog pictures and unfortunately that was about the only NOT foggy place around. So I drove around some more but nothing foggy was really striking my fancy so I headed towards home. On the way I forced myself to stop and take at least SOME photo's and here are my two favorites.

This first one is a place I am sure everyone with a camera has stopped at - but ever since the first time I saw it I knew I would be taking photos of it more than once this year. I am sure all the footprints in the muck are from photographers! The ice today was melting and so the pond was gurgling and gulping and groaning. I think the blue sky is fantastic though!


I have no idea what this plant even is but they were growing in the ditch with the cat-tails. I think they are super neat looking!

This is my first ever after dark photo session. It was a challenge and I definitely think I have more to learn in this area. Thanks to T for the great idea of going to the lit up skating rink! Thanks L & R - you were great sports :)

Absolute Photography: Photo Assignment - Fashion Photography

One of this weeks assignments at school was fashion photography using simple lighting setups. For these photos I just used the available light and a reflector. The "product" is the necklace. Thanks to Kaylyn for modeling again!

Absolute Photography: Baby Bump meets studio! - Grande Prairie Maternity Photography

I expect this little one to come out saying "cheese". This belly belongs to one of my classmates; so lately we have all been photographing her beautiful bump like crazy. Today I met up with her at the studio to "play around" - we practiced taking some product shots and just gained some extra familiarity with the lighting equipment in general. At the end of the afternoon we had some extra time so I asked if I could try some ideas I had. If you follow my blog you will have noticed that I am much more of a "natural light" photographer than a studio photographer. It is my goal to become as comfortable in the studio as I am in the outdoors though! Grande Prairie's winters make it difficult to shoot outside all the time. Wish me luck :)

I am pretty happy with how these have turned out!



* side note.. this photographer apparently cannot SPELL - good thing this baby isn't planning on showing up for a couple more months! Time for a "redo"! Should read "Bentley" :)

I picked this little guy up in an antique store in Armstrong, BC last summer while driving between Kelowna and our cabin in the Shuswap. I would love a collection of old cameras to put on the shelf at home!

Absolute Photography: Portrait Assignment - Grande Prairie Portrait Photographer

This week for our Photographic Categories class we discussed portrait sessions. Our assignment was to interview one of our classmates and then take their portrait based on that interview. As a group we decided to draw names from a hat to determine who's photo's we would be doing. I got Kaylyn! Many of you "know" her from my Christmas card! Well maybe not "know" but she did take that great pic of Abbie and I! We seem to work well together and I am quite happy with these results. She was looking for profile photo's for on her new photography blog. I have a feeling some photo's of me will be showing up over there shortly!
