Absolute Photography - Grandma's Angels Part 2 - Grande Prairie Children's Photography

One of the ways that we can use and the photos from your photography session is to create lasting memories with a custom designed album.

This album is an 8x8" hardcover book with thick layflat pages and features a minimum of 20 photos from your custom photography session. Larger sizes and upgraded book styles are also available.

A week or so ago I mentioned a special photo session that I wasn't able to share right away.. here it is!! These grandkids got together for a photosession to give their Grandma ("Mama") for her birthday. Well now the presents are unwrapped and the joy shared so now the rest of you can have a look!

These kids were great as always.. all of them have had my camera quite literally in their face since birth! It's been a pure joy to be able to photograph them as they grow!

I would like to give a HUGE special thanks to Mother Nature for allowing us to have this awesome shoot. A week before this session we were all buried in snow and hiding inside away from the cold. Then voila! it warmed up..!
As you can see it all turned out great. Normally I don't post a sneak peak on here until I am finished editing the session - but with sooo many great images I couldn't not share some of what were already done!

Lately most of us have been shovelling in our spare time, when we don't have time, and every moment in between. Or at least that's what it feels like! Something like 30-40 cm of snow fell last weekend, creating terrible roads, stuck cars, and sore backs!! But today the sun came out and I was able to capture just a tiny bit of the beautiful place I call home. After all that - it doesn't look so terrible out there does it!?

This was a great session! Long before Christmas this couple (on the left) contacted me for a holiday session. Their parents were coming across the country (from Newfoundland) to celebrate this year and they wanted to capture a few moments from this trip as a gift for them! We got together on the 28th and took some photo's both inside their home and outside in the quite chilly weather!

Check out these "newfy gloves" - I think they would prob work great as photographer mitts! Too cute.

Another special session! Baby E is my cousin's daughter. When her mommy told me she was having a girl I ordered this little angel onesie right away from the "You Are Good" store after seeing them on one of my favorite photographer's blog.

How adorable does she look all snuggled in here! So sweet.
More awake in these ones, little E decided that posing for the camera just wasn't enough and she rolled over (from tummy to back) for the first time during our session!

And of course some outside shots on a chilly winter day. I love her hat!

I don't often photograph families without babies & toddlers; and it sort of feels like "hmm what else should we do" when I don't spend the whole time running around after busy busy kids! I've probably said that before.. but it always seems to surprise me! Also, how can I not just love a location (their home) with beautiful white fences, animals, and stonework?

I met up with this family pre-snow - it was not pre-frost though! This early Saturday morning session was a chilly one! As the sun came up the grass was glittering and the light was my favorite - glowy!

This little sweetie pie was a pleasure to work with! Just my kind of kid - running around everywhere checking everything out and happy! Plus those EYES! They speak for themselves!

This session was a blast.. a blast of wind. Not to worry - this trio is quite used to hanging out in the great outdoors. For this session I met the girls (my cousins) out near Wanham and we played on some huge rocks, in a couple of different fields, and of course up against a granary (my fave). It's always great fun to photograph people that I am so close to.. and easier! Smiles come naturally, everyone is very used to me and my camera.. and I feel more comfortable being bossy! haha.

This little guy's mom called me near the end of her pregnancy to book maternity photos and newborn photos. The maternity session (posted in the post of many many photos) was a quick one as we ended up in a downpour - my first rained out session ever! Knock on wood that is the only time that happens.
This session was much dryer. Well aside from a couple diaper changes! We had a nice quiet and comfy session in their home - turns out he was a big fan of my bean bag chair so sleeping wasn't a problem!

August 14, 2010 - This wedding was great! We started out in Rio Grande where the girls all got ready in their families home (yes their - all of the bridesmaids were the brides sisters!). Then once everyone was beautiful the guys all came out and we did all the photos in the pretty yard and at an old homestead nearby. How awesome is this truck!? When we met up for engagement photos and drove past this great photo "backdrop" I wanted to use it then and there. I am so glad we saved it for their wedding day! This beautiful couple then said their vows at the Catholic Church in Grande Prairie and celebrated at the Centre 2000.

I am sure I have already mentioned that I LOVE fog. Lately I haven't taken much time to just take pictures because I love taking pictures. I have been very busy with weddings, family portraits, etc. all of which I also love - but to just play with no expectations = pure FUN. So when I was driving yesterday and I saw fog - I pulled right over and spent 20 minutes playing in the ditch. These are the results;

Recently one of my wedding clients asked me to photograph her sister and brother in law - they would be travelling to Grande Prairie from Ontario for the wedding and could I photograph them while they were here? Ofcourse!

We managed to fit their session in the morning of the wedding and it was so much fun. We ran around the backyard of her family's farm, even ended the session with some jumping on the trampoline.

I always enjoy photographing couples that are so much in love. Many couples get their engagement photos, then their wedding photos, and then wait until they start having kids before they get any more photos done. Why wait? Why not celebrate your love now! I also offer anniversary portrait sessions - whether it's your 1st anniversary or your 40th it's worth capturing the moment :)

Ok! MORE sneak peeks! Well technically this session was over and done when I took these photos. We had walked back to our vehicles and this little missy finds a caterpillar right beside their van. It's so much fun to see a child's reaction to things like this. You could tell she thought it was awesome and somewhat icky at the same time - it kept inching it's way up her hand towards the sleeve of her shirt - and she was NOT letting it get up there! haha SO CUTE. Funny how some of my favorite photos are the ones that I don't have to work for!

Recently I decided to upgrade my camera... to a NIKON! This has been a huge change for me. Ever since I adopted my Dad's old circa 1980's Pentax when I was a teenager I have used Pentax gear. The change to Nikon sort of felt like I was cheating my "team". However after a couple of weeks of shooting with this new camera I am SO HAPPY to have made this change! It is awesome. I think I am officially done editing/sharing photos that were shot with my old gear - so from here on out these are "new camera" photos! For those wondering, the new camera is a D700.

While uploading some photo's from this week I just had to share a quick photo of this smiley guy! Thanks for a great morning in the park H family!

This past weekend I spent down at Pipestone with my family (all of them.. it was a reunion!!). In the summertime I am always drawn to the fields of Canola blooming in such vibrant yellow. School is DONE. So nice! Now it's time to pack up my things and leave my life in Kelowna behind. I am determined to not leave the awesome friends I have made here behind though :) I can't wait to photograph with each of you again.

I met this sweet family on my last trip home. Such a pleasure to photograph them. This big sister was quite proud to help with her new little bro and even demonstrated her knowledge by taking care of her dolly. When it came time for her to be in the photo's dolly had to be buckled safely into baby bro's car seat! To cute!

Had to stop and take some photo's of this orchard in bloom on Sunday! GORGEOUS. This is one thing we definitely miss out on in the Peace Country. My local "experts" say these are apricot trees. I can't wait for the cherries, apples, peaches, etc! So many flowers to come.

This Sunday some of us are having a "mock" wedding photoshoot in this very orchard. Can't wait! I have so many ideas :)

For today's Photographic Categories class we were asked to bring in what we thought were our top 10 favorite photos that we had taken. I found it literally almost impossible to choose! These are the photo's I ended up deciding on - but it could quite easily have been 10 others.

We then did an activity where everyone wrote down three words to describe each persons group of photos (fresh, clean, artistic, natural, nostalgic, etc). It was really neat to see how each person's photos really defined their style. I think that I have a fairly definite style - but oddly enough the words everyone in class used were all over the place - I had 19 different words out of a possible 24! Needless to say I don't disagree with any of the words - many are similar :)

This weeks school assignment was based on the category of fine art. What is fine art really? I think that anything could be considered fine art in a way! The particulars for the assignment was "something you would hang on your wall". This particular photo isn't what I handed in - but it I still enjoy it and it is closer to my usual style than the two I did hand in. Maybe I will post those later! This spool reminds me of my childhood - first a playhouse made out of a spool similar to this (except for much larger) and then after our move to Dawson we seemed to have oodles of these around the yard! Mom used them as "outside coffee tables" etc. I think she might have finally snuck them all into the burn pile by now though!!

I photographed this couple on my last trip home to Grande Prairie; we had the most beautiful day! It was warm and the sun was shining and the sky was bright blue. I will have the pleasure of photographing this couple again this fall at their wedding. Congrats again on your engagement guys!

For anyone that is interested I have spent a big part of this year in the lower levels of the building on the left :)

I woke up this morning to a text from GP "All sorts of crazy fog today". This week is the A2Z challenge for the letter "F" so I was immediately wishing I was at home. Then an hour later I peek out my own curtains and it IS foggy here! Out the door I run without even combing my hair and off to take pictures of fog. I drove out to where I took my last great fog pictures and unfortunately that was about the only NOT foggy place around. So I drove around some more but nothing foggy was really striking my fancy so I headed towards home. On the way I forced myself to stop and take at least SOME photo's and here are my two favorites.

This first one is a place I am sure everyone with a camera has stopped at - but ever since the first time I saw it I knew I would be taking photos of it more than once this year. I am sure all the footprints in the muck are from photographers! The ice today was melting and so the pond was gurgling and gulping and groaning. I think the blue sky is fantastic though!

I have no idea what this plant even is but they were growing in the ditch with the cat-tails. I think they are super neat looking!

Absolute Photography: Baby Bump meets studio! - Grande Prairie Maternity Photography

I expect this little one to come out saying "cheese". This belly belongs to one of my classmates; so lately we have all been photographing her beautiful bump like crazy. Today I met up with her at the studio to "play around" - we practiced taking some product shots and just gained some extra familiarity with the lighting equipment in general. At the end of the afternoon we had some extra time so I asked if I could try some ideas I had. If you follow my blog you will have noticed that I am much more of a "natural light" photographer than a studio photographer. It is my goal to become as comfortable in the studio as I am in the outdoors though! Grande Prairie's winters make it difficult to shoot outside all the time. Wish me luck :)

I am pretty happy with how these have turned out!

* side note.. this photographer apparently cannot SPELL - good thing this baby isn't planning on showing up for a couple more months! Time for a "redo"! Should read "Bentley" :)
